they're trying to tell me that I need to subscribe to two internet service providers because I have two computers in the house, with two modems, either that or spend even more money and buy a router....

and they say this, after they screw up getting a technician out to install the service 5 consecutive times, and the person who eventualy came out never says jack shit about all this.

fuck cox. as soon as I find another cable provider, Im dropping them like a bad habit.

And my weekend was too uneventful... I have too many people in my phone book who I never call, or who never call me... I shudder to think what that says about me and my life...

a router is about the same price as another modem, plus it's way easier anyway. i can have 4 comps connected through mine without cox knowing a damn thing about it. :o

yeah... now that Ive calmed down a bit, its not that big a deal really... it just still irks me, that there's always something hidden in there....

that, and I really hated those cox commercials to begin with... ah well...

If you get a relatively basic router, it's very cheap.. this is assuming you don't want wireless or anything fancy like that. If they're saying you need to subscribe to their service twice, they have a problem. We had six computers using the same connection a while back..

By the way -- we switched from Cox to SBC Yahoo DSL, which seems to work very well if you don't mind the lack of webspace (they call a "personalized start page" webspace in their propaganda, but it's a trick, there's no webspace).

I am right now seriously considering getting DSL... but the house I live in right now is old, and Im under the impression that in order to get DSL, Ive got to have someone come out, wire it into the house, and instal a port, which would be all sorts of mad expensive

Eh.. my dad switched his service from his house to this one, and his house was really old and he just needed to put a DSL filter on his phone line.

I live in a house close by Northwest HS that was built in the mid sixties, and they told us we were fine about the wiring part. It's the "how far away do I live from the connector station" that says you can have DSL.
